We have a brand new podcast interview for you today and it’s GOLD (if I do say so myself).

I’m excited to have on our Podcast one of Australia’s most in demand choreographers Marko Panzic.

He’s been on So You Think You Can Dance, has worked with international artists including Robin Thicke, Ricky Martin and Kylie Minogue and has choreographed for artists including Ricki-Lee and Jessica Mauboy. He’s also the performance producer for the smash television show ‘The Voice’, artistic director of The Australian Dance Festival plus the founder of The Dream Dance Company.

Marko is passionate about the development of the world’s young dancers and performers hence why I wanted him on the show today.

In this episode, Marko and I discuss:

  1. His journey in the dance industry:
  • How he faced and overcame failure
  • The importance of having passion and drive because that’s what gets you through multiple rejections
  1. The 3 things his teachers taught him that helped him in his career
  • Discipline and respect of dance
  • Passion for dance, how to love dance
  1. Some of the common mistakes dance teachers or dance studio owners make in their business
  • Teachers need to be encouraging students to be individuals and find their own strength while being able to extract the performer out of them not just the dancer
  1. How Marko plans a class to ensure he continually engages the students and has them leaving feeling inspired and like they can take on the world
  • You have to love what you are about to teach
  • It is important to have balance of educating the dance steps but then also having a connection with the students
  • Create a playground for the dancers where they can be clapped and appreciated
  • Find ways to bring out the best in people without being too negative (how to communicate your correction positively)
  1. The difference between a studio owner that is barley surviving and one that is thriving
  • The studio owner should be asking the question, who is running my business, and the answer should be ME
  • Studio owners should act as the CEO
  1. His views on what the dance industry needs to work on and where dance is headed?

Have an awesome rest of the week!
